On December 22, 2025, Government Agreement No. 256-2025, dated December 19, was published in the Official Gazette, which formalized the new minimum wages in force in Guatemala as of January 1, 2026. These are as follows:
Economic District 1 (ED1), limited to the department of Guatemala.
Economic Distric 2 (CE2), which comprises the rest of the departments in the Republic of Guatemala.
Please note that if wages are calculated on an hourly basis, the corresponding proportional amount will be paid depending on the number of hours worked. In addition to the minimum wage set, as applicable, workers must be paid the monthly incentive bonus of Q250 (US$32.5) established in Decree No. 78-89 of the Congress of the Republic. This benefit cannot be broken up in multiple payments.
The Government Agreement also established some enforcement measures. Below is a summary of the most relevant ones:
- The General Labor Inspectorate will verify compliance with the payment of the minimum wage set by activity and economic district.
- Employers must have up-to-date records in accordance with the usual course of their activities and the location of their workplaces.
- The amount set for the payment of the minimum wage is governed and determined by the location of the workplace.
- Workers who earn per piece, a lump sum or for piecework shall not be harmed under no circumstances.
