Today, March 8th, marks International Women's Day. This is a day to reflect on women's struggle for equality, equity, justice, peace, and development; and to promote women's rights and raise awareness about their contribution in society, economy, politics, community, academia, and everyday life. For this reason, at Carrillo & Asociados we are grateful for the great efforts that women have made throughout history, we recognize the road that remains to be traveled and we commit ourselves to continue promoting efforts and spaces to achieve it.
This year, the motto chosen by the United Nations to commemorate this day is: "Invest in women: accelerate progress". Today, it resonates with force. The current pace suggests that it will take some 131 years to achieve full gender equality. It is crucial to close existing gaps and accelerate the path to a world where women enjoy full equality in all aspects of life.
Women's Day is a stark reminder that although we have made progress, there is still a long way to go. Businesses and organizations play a critical role in this process, being able to implement policies and practices that foster women's economic empowerment and ensure their full and effective participation at all levels of decision-making, as stipulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts are essential to building more just, equitable and prosperous societies.
To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, measures must be taken to eliminate the causes of discrimination that continue to restrict women's rights in both the public and private spheres.
Below, we share some concrete actions that can be implemented in your organization to work on closing these gaps:
- Gender equality and non-discrimination policies: Develop and implement internal policies that promote gender equality and prevent discrimination in the workplace. This includes equal employment opportunities, promotions, and remuneration.
- Professional development programs: Offer training and mentoring programs for women, focusing on the development of technical and leadership skills, as well as in areas where women are underrepresented.
- Promotions to leadership positions: Set clear objectives for women to move up the career ladder to increase women's representation in leadership and decision-making positions within the organization.
Implementing these actions requires genuine leadership commitment and the participation of all members of the company. By investing in women, companies will not only be contributing to gender equality, but will also be enhancing their own innovation, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability.
At Carrillo & Asociados we value and respect women, and we are committed to working together to create a more just and equitable world for all. We are proud to invest in the development and defense of women's rights and freedoms, and we are willing to collaborate closely to move towards a future where gender equality is a lived reality.
