On Monday, December 18, the new National Migratory Policy<\/a> was published in the Diario de Centroam\u00e9rica<\/a> , which will be in effect for the next ten years, until 2032. This was made official through the National Migratory Authority Agreement No. AMN 009-2023.<\/p>

The Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) is in charge of executing it to guarantee, in an effective manner and with a human rights approach, the origin, return, transit and destination of migrants in the country.<\/p>

The Migration Policy focuses on target 10.7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which states: \"Facilitate orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people, through the implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies<\/em>\" is required.<\/p>

The four thematic axes of this policy are:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Axis 1: Human rights and groups in vulnerable situations:<\/strong> focused on guaranteeing comprehensive care for all migrants, with emphasis on those in vulnerable situations, to ensure the protection of their human rights.<\/p>

Axis 2: Integration and sustainable reintegration<\/strong>this axis highlights the importance of people living in the country being considered to achieve development and welfare objectives.<\/p>

Axis 3: Migration, consular services, and integrated border management: <\/strong>seeks to make migration and consular services more efficient in favor of safe, orderly, and regular migration, guaranteeing the rights and security of people, for which the participation of various government institutions is essential. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

Axis 4: Migration and sustainable development: <\/strong>recognizes the strategic nature of international migration and international movements of people in their link with local and national development.<\/p>

The Migration Policy is aimed primarily at four target groups:<\/p>
